This course focuses on the reading of great literature and exploring the literary devices, styles, and themes inherent in those works. The core works share common themes: self-discovery, society’s impact on the individual, successes and failures in human relationships, and individuals’ handling of adversity. Goals of the course are for all students to read well, to deepen their literary analysis skills, and to gain perspective on an array of discussion topics. Emphasis will also be placed on vocabulary development.
